About the Event

Vivaldi’s jolly Concerto RV 121 opens this performance and then...

Haydn’s Cello Concerto No 1 in C Major, presumed lost for nearly 200 years was only rediscovered in 1961. It packs vibrancy, sweet lyricism and breathless excitement all in one.  Haydn C is in the repertoire of every great cellist and we are so lucky to hear the incredibly talented 17-year-old Max Wung interpret this masterpiece.

Another young star, the highly gifted Ellie Malonzo will play her own composition, Violin Concerto in A Major, composed this year and naturally a world premiere.  Ellie, now 12 years old, started violin at age 5, began composing at age 6, became WAYO Philarmonic's concertmaster at 11 and has a truly inspiring list of prizes from around the world.

To end we have a Mozart contemporary,  Dittersdorf, who once performed in a quartet playing first violin, Haydn second violin, Mozart viola and Wanhal cello. Despite his compositions “greatly emphasizing sensuous Italo-Austrian melody” Dittersdorf is hardly known these days. Symphony No 3 is uplifting and beautiful, with the slow movement unusually one grand flute solo, exquisitely performed by Michael Howell.
